BRISTOL, R.I. - One more year of Roger Williams University Women’s Soccer is in the books, and three more seniors will be lost to graduation. The team’s chance of repeating as the TCCC Champion ended after they were beaten in the opening round of the playoffs in an exciting game that went to penalty kicks against Western New England College.
The team posted an overall record of 11-5-3, and 9-3-1 in the conference which put them in third place going into the playoffs. The team hosted the Golden Bears from WNEC who were seeded sixth. The two teams battled it out for regulation and two overtime periods, with the game tied at two goals apiece. The tie was broken by penalty kicks where WNEC came out on top, 4-3.
On the season, the Hawks posted the best goals per game in the TCCC with 50 goals in 19 games for an average of 2.63. They also tied for the lead in assists with 37, and were fifth in the conference for goals against average with a 1.11. During one two week span the women were able to string together four straight victories against conference opponents, only allowing two goals during that time. The girls went 3-1-1 in the last five games going into the playoffs.
Five Hawks were named to the All-TCCC team. Sophomores Laurin Pendleton (Southwick, Mass.) and Michelle Meagher (Sudbury, Mass.) as well as senior Goalkeeper Jen Garside (Londonderry, N.H.) were all named to the All-TCCC First Team. Teammates Julie Moody (Plymouth, Mass.) and Amanda daCunha (Wethersfield, Conn.) received All-TCCC Honorable Mention recognition for their efforts.
The team says farewell and thank you to the three seniors, Garside, daCunha and Carey Baldwin (West Hartford, Conn.). The trio were also the teams three Captains.
