BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women’s Swimming and Diving team got their second win of the season as they defeated Bridgewater State College 149-108 on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks record now stands at 2-3 while the visitors drop to 2-5.
Setting the pace for the women were Caitlin O’Connor (Wallingford, Conn.) and Marissa Carr (Arlington, Mass.). O’Connor took home top honors in both the 200-yd and 100-yd Freestyle events, as well as being part of the winning relays in the 400-yd Medley and the 400-yd Freestyle events. Carr was busy as well as she swam in the Freestyle Relay with O’Connor, took second in the 1000-yd Freestyle, third in the 50-yd Freestyle, and won the 500-yd Freestyle event. Casey Meagher (Billerica, Mass.) also put in a strong performance, as she was also a part of the winning Freestyle relay team, placed second behind O’Connor in the 100-yd Freestyle and won the 50-yd Freestyle. The duo of Olivia Hilton (Vernon, Conn.) and Kelly Meacham (Southington, Conn.) would take first and second in the 50-yd Breaststroke. Hilton also took second in the 1M Diving while Laura Folsom (Simsbury, Conn.) would win both that event and the 3M Diving event.
Scoring points for the visitors were Loren Phinney (Holbrook, Mass.) as she won the 1000-yd Freestyle and the 200-yd Backstroke, and Bryn Morwick (Indianapolis, IN) who won the 50-yd Backstroke, the 400-yd IM, and the 200-yd Butterfly.
With the win the women’s team gains a bit of momentum heading into the Commonwealth Coast Conference Invite, which will be on December 4th and 5th, beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday. The Bears are in action at home against Gordon College on December 8th at 6 p.m.
