FALL RIVER, Mass. - The Roger Williams University Men's Club Ice Hockey team opened up their inaugural season on Saturday as they hosted Northeastern University. In the team's first game ever, they were beaten by a score of 15-2 despite a strong effort.
Scoring for the first goal for the home team in the second period was Sean Reilly (Westwood, Mass.), the goal was assisted by Devin Zucker (York, Maine). The Hawks second tally came in the third frame from Daniel L'Esperance (Mapleville, R.I.), and was assisted by teammates Frank Castorina (Monroe, Conn.) and Chester Potter (Rochester, Mass.).
The Hawks were assessed three penalties in the game, two 2-minute minors for tripping and cross-checking, and a five minute major for hitting from behind. They were out-shot 51-22 by the visitors.
Time was split in net between Craig Forrest (Salem, Mass.) and Nicholas Hammerman (Huntington Valley, Pa.). Forrest had the start and made 28 saves, while Hammerman came in and recorded eight saves in 21 minutes played.
The Hawks open up with an 0-1 record, they look to break even in their next contest on October 17th against Rhode Island College in Providence, R.I. at 9 pm.
