WENHAM, Mass. – With three top-20 finishes, the Roger Williams University Men's Cross Country team earned a fourth-place finish at the Pop Crowley Invitational Saturday afternoon, hosted by Gordon College.
The Hawks had to deal with less than optimal weather for the day, as the rain and wind on the day led the course to be muddy and wet. Despite the adverse racing conditions, freshman Mitch Leveille (North Kingstown, R.I.) still managed to place fourth overall with a time of 27:12, followed by junior Jonathan Ellis (Yonkers, R.I.) who came in ninth in 27:35.
Junior Thomas Maybury (East Longmeadow, Mass.) turned in a time of 28:02, good for 16th, while junior Andrew Gallant (Merrimac, Mass.) clocked in at 28:52 to take 36th. Two places behind Gallant was freshman Jeff Pini (Wellesley, Mass.) at 29:01, followed by junior David Freiman (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) who took 46th in 29:18. Senior Timothy Eynatian (Chelmsford, Mass.) was the final Hawk runner to earn points for the team, placing 48th for RWU with a time of 29:21.
Host Gordon College won the event, tallying 62 points, with Greg Redfield of Johnson & Wales finishing first in 26:31.
Roger Williams will be at the Westfield State College Invitational next Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
