Jen Garside: seventh consecutive shutout

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Women’s Soccer team could not hold on to its 1-0 first-half lead against Western New England College Saturday afternoon, as the Golden Bears notched a second-half score that would ultimately draw the game to a 1-1 tie.

Katie Fusaro (Hopkinton, Mass.) assisted on the 12th goal of the season for Laurin Pendleton (Southwick, Mass.) at the 22:53 mark to give Roger Williams a 1-0 advantage. The Hawk defense kept the Golden Bears at bay before a foul committed in the 67th minute gave WNEC an opportunity for a penalty kick. Andrea Almeida (Newington, Conn.) found the back of the net to knot the score at one apiece.

In the overtime periods, offense was hard to come by for both teams, with the Hawks being held without a shot in the two periods, while the Golden Bears only managed two shots over both periods. The match ended one-all, with both teams earning their first ties in Commonwealth Coast Conference play this season.

Keeper Jen Garside (Londonderry, N.H.) made 11 saves for Roger Williams on the day, while her counterpart Jessica Covino (Bristol, Conn.) turned away ten shots in the game.

Roger Williams (9-4-2, 7-2-1 TCCC) travels up to the University of New England Tuesday for 4:00 p.m. game, while WNEC (6-7-1, 5-4-1 TCCC) hosts Regis College Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
