WESTFIELD, Mass. - The Roger Williams University Women’s Cross Country team finished in 4th place at the James Earley Invitational hosted by Westfield State College on Saturday. The Hawks finished with 143 points behind Trinity, Westfield State, and the winners from Southern Maine who had 58 points.
The Hawks were led by senior Emily Tran (Sharon, Mass.) who finished 3rd overall out of 266 total runners with a time of 19:24.63. Teammate Susan Thaxter (Pepperell, Mass.) was close behind with a time of 20:49.36 in 27th. The Hawks’ Alyssa Donovan (Bridgewater, Mass.) was also not far off the leaders in 34th place with a time of 21:07.34, just beating out teammate Kaitlin Crowley (Beverly, Mass.) who came in 35th with a time of 21:09.88. RWU’s Samantha Buechner (Nashua, N.H.) came in with a time of 21:26.00 which put her in 48th place. The sixth finisher for the Hawks was Lauren Ashby (Manchester, N.H.) in 52nd place with a time of 21:29.74. The final RWU runner to earn points towards the total was Katie O'Koren (Franklin, Mass.) in 55th place overall with a time of 21:37.07.
The Hawks had an overall time of 1:43:57.21 and an average time of 20:47.45. The total time was a little over three minutes behind the winning team from Southern Maine, and just 16 seconds behind the team from Trinity.
Next up for the Women’s Cross Country team is the Alumni Race on the 24th of this month, followed by the TCCC Championships on the 31st.
